Founded by Verne Powell in Boston in 1927, Verne Q. Powell Flutes strives to provide professional flutists with custom-made precious metal flutes. The first 10 flutes made by Mr. Powell were owned by some of the most famous American flutists of the time, including William Kincaid, Arthur Lora, and John Wummer. By 1930, Powell flutes were part of major orchestras in Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland, Detroit, New York, and Philadelphia.

Ownership of a Powell flute connects musicians to a network of people, past and present. From the earliest Powell flutes made in 1927 to the instruments finished today in the workshop, every Powell flute has a unique character, but all share a family resemblance.

Powell’s flute makers continue the New England tradition of craftsmanship and a devotion to making the highest quality instruments, utilizing a combination of hand-crafting, technology, and a little bit of magic to produce each work of art.
