Greenhoe Trombones was founded in 2001 and began production in 2002 under the direction and design of Gary Greenhoe. Gary has been an instrumental part of high quality trombone design for most of his 41 years as a professional trombonist with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Gary’s patented Greenhoe valve system has been at the center of every Greenhoe Trombone since the beginning. Greenhoe Trombones represent a return to a classic sound with the highest quality available throughout the world.
Schilke Music Products is committed to preserving the designs and legacy that Gary has created and developed. Schilke uses state of the art technology combined with traditional old world craftsmanship and expert assembly to carry on the original Greenhoe designs. Schilke’s unparalleled quality of construction ensures the highest standards in modern trombone sound and performance without compromise. With the integration of Greenhoe, Inc. into Schilke Music Products, the leader in high quality brass manufacturing for more than 60 years, Greenhoe Trombones will continue to represent the highest standard of excellence.
The GC4-1R-TIS features an 8 1/2" two-piece rose brass bell, rose brass bell crook, .547" handslide with rose brass outer tubes and nickel silver crook, as well as two interchangable leadpipes and the patented Greenhoe valve with both brass and Lexan caps. Includes Greenhoe lightweight case and Schilke Symphony mouthpiece.
We have found all of the new Greenhoe trombones to be exceptionally responsive and stable; they almost give the impression of being able to play what you are thinking before you actually play! The GC4 has a balanced warmth to it's sound with complexity and the ability to shimmer in the upper register; the TIS adds to the stability and provides a rounded edge to the sound while making the transitions through the partials buttery-smooth. This model is surprisingly light and with the TIS the balance point is right on the slide handgrip for a very comfortable feel as well. Beyond their excellent playing and timbre the Greenhoe trombones are also among the best built we have in the shop and showcase the incredible care and handcrafting that go into them!
Note: Production time on Greenhoe trombones can be a year or more. Please contact a brass specialist at the Trombone Shop for availability.
