1965 Olds R-15 Recording Tenor Trombone for Sale

The Olds R-15 Recording was a staple in the Olds catalogue from the 1940’s to the 1970’s; while it went through a few iterations by the 1960’s it’s design had settled in, featuring an 8” “Rey-O-Loy” red brass bell, .495”/.510” dual bore handslide with nickel silver outer tubes and crook and fluted (duo-octagonal) inner slide tubes.  This particular Recording is in near-mint condition, having been a “closet” horn since 1967; the handslide has a few small points of wear on typical contact points but virtually no wear on the inner tubes, with overall performance 9+/10.  The bell is in pristine condition with no dings or dents, and only a few tiny scratches on the tuning slide and bell and a few very small areas of oxidation under the lacquer.

With it’s dual bore this trombone plays very efficiently, using a smaller, more compact airstream that results in a beautifully warm timbre at low-to-mid dynamics but still very responsive and articulate; at higher dynamics the sound brightens considerably with a focused projection but still without needing a huge air supply.  This may be the best looking and playing Recording we have had in the shop and would be a good fit for either a player or a collector (or both!)
